a salute to Veterans.
Before we get into the nitty gritty, we’d first like to share some facts about our strong commitment to Veterans.
Humana has a Military friendly culture and has national relationships with organizations. We’re the national Medicare plan provider for AMVETS and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
We’ve contributed over $1 million to the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities.1
Through our Veterans’ Hiring Initiative, we’ve hired over 5,500 veterans and their spouses since 2011.2

If you have coverage through the VA, it’ll be helpful to know what healthcare services the VA already covers when you’re choosing a plan. While each VA benefit package is unique to each Veteran, the following are examples of health care services that the VA typically covers:

Already have VA benefits? Here are some reasons you may want to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan:
REASON 1: Greater Hospital and Doctor Selection
Having a Medicare Advantage plan means you may be covered if you need to go to a non-VA hospital or doctor – so you may have more options to choose from.
REASON 2: More Prescription Options
If you sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan or a stand-alone Prescription Drug Plan that includes Part D (coverage for prescription drugs), you’ll be able to use it to get medicine from non-VA doctors and fill your prescriptions at your local pharmacy instead of through the VA mail-order service.

VA CoverageYou can use your VA benefits at VA medical centers or you can get permission ahead of time from the VA to get services at non-VA centers covered by your VA benefits, although you may need to pay a VA copayment for non-service-connected care.
Medicare CoverageIf you go to a non-VA (or VA authorized) care facility, Medicare may pay for other services you need during your stay. Check your Medicare plan, so you know which care locations and services you’re covered for.
