Original Medicare Part A helps cover hospital expenses, skilled nursing, home health and hospice care. Part B helps cover doctor & outpatient coverage including doctor visits, outpatient care and preventive services.
Part A covers hospital expenses such as room, board and other inpatient services, limited stay in a skilled nursing facility, and helps cover hospice care and home-health care.
You are automatically enrolled in Medicare hospital insurance, Part A, when you apply for Social Security benefits - usually when you turn 65.
Part B covers medical expenses, such as doctor's services, outpatient services and other medical supplies. It helps pay for some services Part A doesn't cover, like some occupational and physical therapy services and some home-health care. It also covers some preventive services.
The premium you pay for Part B is deducted from your Social Security benefits.
Some Limitations of Original Medicare to Consider
Medicare pays for many healthcare services and supplies, but it doesn't cover all of your healthcare costs.
For example, you typically pay a deductible for each hospital stay and coinsurance anytime you use the services of a physician or surgeon. Also, very little drug coverage is provided.
Because Original Medicare doesn't cover everything, private insurance companies like Humana offer Parts C and D to provide coverage for these services Original Medicare doesn't cover.
Humana Medicare Advantage Part C
Combine all the benefits of Original Medicare Parts A and B, often with options to add prescription drug, dental and vision coverage, all for a single monthly plan premium.
Medicare Advantage plans work very similar to traditional health insurance coverage. Instead of paying doctors, hospitals and other providers directly, the federal government pays private insurers like Humana to administer your plan.
Humana’s all-in-one Medicare Advantage plans cover all of the same things that Original Medicare Parts A and B cover, but many of our plans also include other benefits, like prescription drug coverage, preventive care, and wellness programs, plus dental, vision, and hearing care benefits for more comprehensive healthcare coverage in one convenient plan.
Every Medicare Advantage plan has a maximum annual out-of-pocket cost for its members. Original Medicare does not. With a Medicare Advantage plan, once the maximum dollar amount for medical care has been reached, the plan pays 100% of the costs for most covered services for the rest of the plan year.
While some Medicare Advantage plans have deductibles and coinsurance, others have copayments which are set fees for such things as office visits or outpatient care. This helps you better plan for out-of-pocket costs so you can budget your medical care more effectively.
Most Humana Medicare Advantage plans also offer important extra benefits and services like the SilverSneakers® Fitness Program and Premiums with Humana Medicare Advantage plans may be as low as $0 in many areas.
Humana Prescription Drug Plans Part D
One of the major gaps in Original Medicare is prescription drug coverage. For help managing the costs of your prescription medications, you need to add on prescription drug coverage.
There are two ways to get Part D prescription drug coverage from Humana.
You can purchase a stand-alone Part D Prescription Drug Plan, or get a Part C Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug Plan which includes prescription drug coverage in-one convenient plan.
