What is Medicare Advantage?
Medicare Advantage plans, or Medicare Part C, are plans offered by private insurance companies that combine all the benefits of Original Medicare Parts A and B, and often also include other benefit options like Part D prescription drug coverage, dental and vision coverage, and other extra benefits, all for a single monthly plan premium.
How is Medicare Advantage different from Original Medicare?
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies. Original Medicare (Parts A and B) is offered by the federal government. You can choose a Medicare Advantage plan to “replace” your Original Medicare coverage but you never lose Medicare. Medicare Advantage plans offer the value of all-in-one plans that include more benefits than Original Medicare.
Does Original Medicare cover prescriptions?
If you choose Original Medicare, you will need to purchase additional coverage like a Part D Prescription Drug Plan in order to have your prescription drugs covered. Plans like Medicare Advantage offer all-in-one options that can include prescription drug coverage, as well as dental, hearing and many other valuable benefits.
How does a Medicare Advantage plan work?
Medicare Advantage plans work very similar to traditional health insurance coverage. Companies like Humana offer different types of Medicare Advantage plans with different types of physician and hospital networks, and pricing options so that you can find a plan that meets your needs. Instead of having an insurance card in your wallet from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), you’ll have a Medicare plan card from a company such as Humana, who will help you understand and manage your coverage and benefits.
Are all Medicare Advantage plans the same?
